Apr. 2nd, 2025: Tribe of Dan

“...And, he shall kill it, on the Side of the Altar—Northward, before the Lord.”

—Lev. 1:11

This subject is also a very controversial one. The opinion of the Church Fathers’ concerning the Tribe of Dan is very well known to us. The Patristic understanding, is that Antichrist will come from this Tribe, that is signified by a Lion’s Whelp, (Deut. 33:22), & by a Serpent (Gen. 49:17)—both of which do (on the vulgar level), designate the Antichrist.

Needless to mention that this Patristic teaching is vulgar and erroneous. First of all (Gen. 49:9): ...The Lion also signifies Judah (duh...). Second of all, the Tribe of Dan is perhaps the most mysterious, holiest, significances in the Bible. The Jews hold that David’s mother (who was not named in the Bible), was a Danite. Hiram, King of Tyre (by whose collaboration with Solomon was the First Temple built) sprang from the Tribe of Dan (2 Chron. 2:14). So was Aholiab (Exo. 31:6), who built the Tabernacle alongside Bezaleel (the Judaite).

Now that we’ve set the “basis” straight, let’s go-forth unto the real meat of this significance.

It stands: “And the standard of the camp of the children of Dan set forward—which was the rereward of all the camps” (Num. 10:25).

The word for “rereward” here—מאסף—does etymologically relate to the root אסף, from which is the word for the Flocks’ “Gathering” (Gen. 29:3), נאספו, derived.

The Megallee Amukkott reveals, that the Three Flocks typify the Banners of Judah, Ephraim & Reuben. It is only through their consummation in Dan—that “Rear Guard”—that the “Great Stone” is (Gen. 29:3) “put, again, in its Place”.

The Great Stone represents the Tribe of Dan, situated to the North of the Tabernacle (Num. 2:25). It is only by the union of Judah & Dan (symbolised by the cooperation of Solomon & Hiram, or that of Bezaleel & Aholiab) that the redemption of “Nature” is acquired.

It is by coming to the North, in which the Sacrifice is made (Lev. 1:11), that The Man is brought-forth, & set-right.

From a Talmudic perspective:

The Tribe of Dan is also connected to numerable mysteries of Jesus. For example, the “Blasphemer of the Name”, was a Danite (Lev. 24:10-12). According to the Tradition, brought-forth in numerable places, including Rashi’s comment (Rashi Lev. 24:12): The Danite “Blasphemer”, & the (Num. 15:32) “Stick Gatherer” [“And, while the children of Israel were in the wilderness—they found a man that gathered sticks upon the sabbath day”] are the same type. The “Stick Gatherer” is called האיש (“The Man”), which bears the same count (316) as ישו (Jeshu, i.e. Jesus).

Jesus is understood here as a “rebel” against Moses. Which is sort of, what he signifies—a “transmutation” of Moses’ Law, now substituted with the Gospel.

There’s surely a typological equivalence, between the “Stick Gatherer” & the “Corn Pluckers” (Matt. 12). Take note.
